Healthy Home Facts
Recent research shows that pollutant levels inside our homes are often two to five times higher than the air outdoors. The known discomfort symptoms and health effects of exposure to indoor health pollutants range from mild short-term acute effects, such as sneezing, itchy eyes and general discomfort; to more serious long-term effects, such as respiratory disorders and perhaps lung cancer.

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) points out that a most of this contamination is caused by high moisture levels, which support the growth of mould and bacteria. Other contamination factors include improperly functioning combustion equipment, household cleaners, cigarette smoke and off-gassing, which is the formaldehyde gas from glue used in construction products such as particle boards, panelling, carpets, furniture and shelves.
